Lola and I were out for our evening walk … I cherish these walks as I know her time here on this planet will soon be drawing to a close. Lola still has so much love to give. She doesn’t concern herself with running out of time, she just keeps doing what she does best – giving and receiving unconditional love and affection.

Tonight was no exception.

We were heading towards another human walking her four legged friend. Lola and this little gem wanted to stop and share some time with one another. That’s the thing about dogs – they always stop when they sense an opportunity to connect.

While Lola and her new companion were visiting, her owner and myself struck up a conversation. This happens more often than not. Another gift.

“What’s your dog’s name”

Lola

“She’s very sweet. How old is she?”

Almost 16

“Wow! Have you had her since she was little?”

Yes, since she was 8 weeks old.
“Do you live by yourself?”

Yes, at the moment, it’s a bit of a long story.

“You’re really going to miss her when she goes. I had a little dog that lived for 16 years. Her name was Rose.”

Wow! I had a little doggie named Rosie that lived until she was 17. Isn’t that something that we both had an old Rosie dog?

“How long have you lived here?”

Only since March. I lost my son on December 1st, 2018 and moved here to take some time out to heal.

“Oh my God. I lost my son too!”

We looked at one another and started to cry. We hugged and stepped back to look into each others eyes, then hugged again. We were both just letting the tears flow and holding each other. Only moments ago we were two complete strangers taking our four legged companions out for a walk.

We met as strangers and left connected by something so deep that words cannot begin to describe what transpired in those precious minutes.

Somehow … Lola and her new four legged friend, my little departed Rosie and Sue’s Rose, my beloved Steve’O and Sue’s beloved son, Sue and I – were all drawn together by an invisible thread in the name of Love.
